Earlier this year I entered a photography competition for the first time.  It is in a magazine called Communication Arts, and this is their 51st annual photography competition.  The magazine, often seen lying around in studios,  is heralded as the most influential publication for art directors and creative directors and has world-wide distribution.

I was incredibly excited and  honored when I got the email a few weeks back announcing that I was selected as one of the winners in the unpublished category of the 2010 competition.  A copy of the magazine containing my winning image arrived at my house while I was at work in the studio so my entire family got to see it before I did :)  I asked my daughter, who had just returned from her first gig as a shooter at a wedding to take a shot of me with the magazine.

My photograph was printed on page 192 of their just released, July / August issue, and it was selected along with the other winners out of a total 13,000 photographs from 6,075 entries. The editorial staff at Communication Arts citing the full impact of the recession, observed a significant drop in entries to this year’s Photography Annual, which in the past, has had as many as 40,000 photographs submitted from all over the world.

My winning photograph was entitled “Fragile – An essay to portray a vulnerable soul”.  The model in this photograph is a wonderful lady from Senegal, who was studying in College Station at the time I had the opportunity to work with her.

The shot comes from a collection of beauty & fashion work I shoot under the studio name Hananexposures. This work can be seen on my websitewww.hananexposures.com

Here is a sneak peek of one of the pages I am designing from the wedding I shot in Woodville Texas last weekend. Rick and Taylor are still on their honeymoon in Cancun and I look forward to sharing more pages with them when they return.

The giant 2arenow1 logo over the entire image 2 page spread does NOT appear in the final printed album :)

I just spent a gorgeous weekend in Woodville Texas photographing the wedding of this wonderful couple, Rick Shealy and Taylor Cauley.

I shot this event with my assistant Melissa, and we covered the festivities the evening of the 18th with cocktails at the gorgeous Wheat House  followed by the rehearsal dinner at the Art Gallery. Then on the 19th the wedding and reception were held at the  Wheat House, which has been in the Cauley family for generations.

This is just a quick collage of images from the wedding, so keep watching this space for the album pages from the wedding, and a complete blog post.

In addition to shooting weddings under the name 2arenow1,  for many years I have been shooting other generes including beauty & fashion, live bands, headshots etc.  under the name Hananexposures.

I just added a new section to this blog which will give you some exposure to those areas of my work. Click the image below, or select Portraits, Headshots & models from my navigation to visit that section.

. . . with her permission, of course. :)

As a wedding photographer, having a second shooter affords me the flexibility and coverage I must have to  tell the complete story of a couple’s big day. I reckon it’s time for you to meet my assistant and second shooter for weddings.  Viewers . . . meet Melissa of Melissa Weston Photography; Melissa . . . meet my blog viewers. Aside from shooting with me at weddings, Melissa does family portraits, and she specializes in taking photos of moms with toddlers.

The shots displayed below are of Melissa—she needed some for her website and blog, so we went out last week.

As you can see below, Melissa is a great person to work with—friendly, fun and calm, all at the same time. :)  003_h

I’ve created a new section on my blog called “Album Pages.” In here, I will post pages I have designed for my clients—to give blog viewers the opportunity to see the end product that my customers will cherish forever.

This addition to that section is from Ben & Shadya’s wedding. Click the image below to visit the entire collection of pages I designed from their big day.
Enjoy . . .

Ben & Shadya

April 8, 2009

It was an honor to shoot the wedding for my friends, Ben and Shadya.  They had an amazingly beautiful wedding in a church very dear to Shadya–she grew up going there. Just before the ceremony, Ben wrote a special note for Shadya that was delivered to her by the best man.  Who knows what Ben put in that little line of words??  Her reaction to whatever was inside was hilarious–must have been too sizzling to share. . . .

The ceremony was beautiful–a service led by Ben’s pastor–which had some funny advice from the youth group Ben helped lead .

The reception was held at Avery Ranch Golf Club on a warm evening with a beautiful sunset.  Congratulations, Ben & Shadya!
